Why do so many beautiful wildflowers grow on Big Mountain?

Pollinators, of course!

Visit the U.S. Forest Service's Summit Nature Center on Friday, Aug. 7, to learn from experts about the native bees, wasps and flies that play a vital role in our mountain ecosystem.

Biologists and botanists from the Forest Service, the National Park Service and the U.S. Geological Survey will be on hand for a variety of fun educational activities.

Kids will learn about and make their own antennae, get quizzed on pollinator trivia, and peek through a microscope to study bee specimens up close! Nets will be available for catch and release of bees as well.

Activities will take place throughout the day inside the Summit Nature Center on the lower level of the Summit House, as well as at a tent set up outside. This event is free and open to everyone!

You can access the summit by hiking up the Danny On Memorial Trail or by purchasing a Scenic Lift Ride. Lift rides are free for 2025/26 ski season passholders.
