End ski season with a splash! Closing weekend means it's time for the Pond Skim

Spring has sprung, the birds are chirping, and we're breaking out the T-shirts, tutus and glitter here at Whitefish Mountain Resort!

We have a whole lot of fun when ski season comes to a close. This includes the highly anticipated Pond Skim and lots of spring skiing and riding. Grab your coolest costume and get ready to hit the slopes for one last hurrah!

The annual Pond Skim is our final event of the season and always takes place during closing weekend. Costumes are required for participants, and fun is guaranteed for all! The Pond Skim consists of four rounds, with those who make it across the pond advancing to the next round.

Round 1 has dozens of competitors make their first attempt with their regular footing (skiers facing forward, snowboarders riding with their usual foot forward).

Make it all the way across, and you advance to Round 2 which requires you to hit a jump into the pond. Round 3 requires competitors to enter the pond switch (skis and snowboards facing backwards) and Round 4 gets really interesting, requiring participants to hit the jump switch into the pond!

Oh, and did I mention there's a fire hose pointed at the competitors to add even more difficulty?! Prizes are awarded for the best costume, best skier and rider of each gender, and best crash. This fun-filled event helps the community gather and celebrate another successful season on the Big.

Maybe the only water you're willing to ski or ride on is the frozen kind. Fair enough! Spring skiing is a blast, with warmer temps and longer days creating slushy, slashable conditions and coveted corn snow. Don't miss out on the closing weekend shenanigans!

If you're sad to see ski season come to an end, don't stress. We'll be back in about eight months to do it all again! Ski ya next season!
