Where does the ceremony take place?
Whitefish Mountain Resort ceremonies take place at our 6,817 ft. elevation mountain summit.
What’s the weather like during a Montana summer?
Summer days in Montana are typically sunny and warm and evenings are crisp and cool after sunset. There can be a 10 degrees of temperature difference between the Base Lodge (where the reception is held) and Summit (where the ceremony takes place).
Do I need a jacket?
A light weight to medium weight jacket is always a good idea.
What type of shoes should I wear?
If you choose to ride in an open chair, your feet will dangle from the lift. Getting on and off takes place on a metal platform. Our Summit ceremony space is covered in rock gravel. Stilettos can be tricky, so we recommend a comfortable shoe with a sturdy heel or sole.
How do I get to the Lift Plaza/Where should I park?
- If you are lodging in the Upper Village, you can either walk or drive to the Lift Plaza. The Birch Lot is adjacent to the Lift Plaza.
- From the Lift Plaza, take Chair 1 to the Summit
- If you are lodging in a townhome or other WMR property that is beyond walking distance to the Lift Plaza, you are welcome to call the Front Desk at 406-862-3687 to request a shuttle.
- From the Lift Plaza, take Chair 1 to the Summit
- If you are not lodging at Whitefish Mountain Resort, we recommend that you park in the Base Lodge parking lot.
- From the Base Lodge, take Chair 6 to the Lift Plaza
- Then, take Chair 1 to the Summit
Which chairlifts have gondolas?
- Chair 6 runs from the Base Lodge to the Lift Plaza and has only open-air chairs, no gondolas.
- 10-12 minute ride time
- Chair 1 runs from the Lift Plaza to the Summit and has both enclosed gondolas AND open-air chairs on one lift line.
- 15-18 minute ride time
When should I arrive at the chairlift?
Wedding guests may load Chair 1 as early as 5:00pm and no later than 5:30pm. Guests that arrive after 5:30pm will not be permitted to load the chairlift and will miss the ceremony.
Do I need to purchase a scenic lift ticket?
No. Simply get in line at Chair 1 and tell the lift operator the name of the wedding group (i.e.- Smith/Jones Wedding).
I will have small children with me. Can they ride the chairlift?
Absolutely. Those traveling with small children are encouraged to park in the Birch Lot and ride in the enclosed gondolas on Chair 1. Car seats and collapsible strollers will fit in the gondolas.
I’m nervous about riding the chairlift. Is there any other way to the Summit other than the chairlift?
Unfortunately, the only other way to access the Summit is by hiking the 3.8 mile Danny On trail. No vehicles are able to access the Summit to transport wedding guests.
Will the chairlift slow down or stop if I need more time to load?
Yes, our chairlift operators will either slow down or completely stop the chairlift when a guest needs more time to get situated. Just ask!
Are the chairlifts ADA accessible?
Yes, we have one gondola that is wheelchair accessible. Any guest requiring this gondola should arrive at the chairlift at least 15 minutes early. There is a paved walkway leading from our Birch parking lot directly to Chair 1.
Are any of the Whitefish Mountain Resort shuttles ADA accessible?
Yes, WMR has one ADA accessible shuttle vehicle. Because this shuttle requires a CDL driver, please inquire in advance with a Group Sales Representative about making arrangements for this shuttle to be available.
What services are available at the Summit?
- Restrooms are available at the Summit House before, during and after the ceremony.
- Food and beverages will be available for purchase prior to the ceremony at the Summit until 5:45pm. The next location for food and drinks will be the Base Lodge around 7pm. Please plan accordingly and stay hydrated!
