One More Week
It's all coming together: employees are reporting to their posts, we're putting the finishing touches on Ed & Mully's, and new 70th Anniversary merchandise is being stocked in our shops. Plus Mother Nature is doing her part. Tuesday night's storm over-delivered bringing us 7 inches of new snow at the summit. Flakes are in the forecast every day through this Sunday. We're already making snow when the temps drop at night, and next week it should be cold enough to make snow around the clock.
Our 70th Anniversary Season starts next Thursday, December 7!
It's too early to say how much will open next week-so much depends on the weather in the next seven days. Similar to last year-the North Side of the mountain looks good and the Front Side needs more snow before we can open runs there. What's new, different and better than last year is our ability to add one more chairlift on Opening Day-the East Rim chairlift (Chair 5). We're hopeful, barring any weird weather, Chair 5 will run.
As if Opening Day was not cause for celebration enough, we will have a short ceremony to celebrate Chair 5's reincarnation on the East Rim. Join us just before 10 a.m. to inaugurate the first day in its new home! It will be the first of many celebrations of our mountain's unique heritage this winter.
On the following Thursday, December 14, the anniversary of our very first Opening Day in 1947, we will celebrate three men who played a key role in the founding of the ski area: Lloyd "Mully" Muldown, Ed Schenck and George Prentice. Ed and George are the two co-founders of Winter Sports Incorporated, and Mully is the "father of skiing in Whitefish." He was one of the first to ski here, taught many others how to ski and helped convince Ed and George that this "Big Mountain" had great potential. Join us for the Founders' Celebration in the Lift Plaza at 10 a.m.
We will also celebrate more during Hellroaring Ski Heritage Days January 19-21, 2018. We will reveal more details as we get closer to that weekend. As for next week's Opening Day terrain we will keep you posted on our website skiwhitefish.com as well as Facebook and Twitter-follow us to stay tuned!
