Lodging Check-In Address: 3889 Big Mountain Road, Whitefish, MT 59937 | 406-862-3687
Nestled at the foot of Big Mountain & next to Whitefish Lake, the town of Whitefish was founded as a frontier logging & trapping outpost & boomed when the Great Northern Railway brought its East-West route through in the early 1900s. The opening of the Going-to-the Sun Road in Glacier National Park in 1933 paved the way for increased summer tourism in the Flathead Valley. And in the ’40s, a few local businessmen were inspired to build a ski resort of their own, opening Big Mountain Resort in 1947.
Whitefish’s long history & popularity as a tourist destination combine to create something unique: a real Montana town with a friendly small-town vibe that also boasts world-class restaurants, vibrant night life, eclectic shopping, two theater companies & more.
