Ski Patrol Scholarship '13 - '14

BMSP Inc. is pleased to announce the expansion of the Community Scholarship Program. There is now a Level 1 Avalanche Course space solely for high school aged applicants.

The Whitefish Mountain Resort Ski Patrol Community Scholarship has been established by the Ski Patrol at Whitefish Mountain Resort to promote wilderness medicine and/or snow safety education in the community. The fund offers five different scholarships annually. The purpose of this scholarship fund is to support winter enthusiasts and professionals in pursuing upper level wilderness medicine and avalanche education.

Scholarship Awards

The recipients of the Whitefish Mountain Resort Ski Patrol Community Scholarship are awarded the cost of the course tuition and fees. Lodging and food costs are not included. Applicants may apply for one course per season. Courses available for application include:

1. Wilderness First Aid-offered through Aerie Backcountry Medicine.
Course Dates: April 12th - 13th, 2014 OR May 3rd - 4th, 2014.
Location: Missoula, MT.
Course Value: $195.

2. Wilderness First Responder-offered through Aerie Backcountry Medicine.
Course Dates: March 29th - April 6th, 2014.
Location: West Glacier, MT.
Course Value: $625.

3. YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP! Level One Avalanche-offered through BMSP Inc.
Course Dates: January 31st - February 2nd, 2014.
Location: Whitefish Mountain Resort, Whitefish, MT.
Course Value: $125.

4. Level One Avalanche-offered through BMSP Inc.
Course Dates: February 21st - 23rd, 2014.
Location: Whitefish Mountain Resort, Whitefish, MT.
Course Value: $125.

5. Level Two Avalanche-offered through BMSP Inc.
Course Dates: February 27th - March 2nd, 2014.
Location: Whitefish Mountain Resort, Whitefish, MT.
Course Value: $300.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must reside in Flathead, Lake, Lincoln or Glacier counties.
  • Applicants must meet the prerequisites for the course to which they want to attend.
  • Applicants must be 15 years or older.
  • Applicants may not be members of the WMR Ski Patrol or family members of the WMR Ski Patrol.

Deadline

All application materials must be emailed to info@bigmountainskipatrol.org, or delivered in person to the Summit Patrol Cabin, by January 12th, 2014. Applicants must submit:
  • The completed application form and essay.
  • One letter of reference.
  • A current resume.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Scholarship recipients will be notified via email no later than January 18th, 2014.
